Tami Luchow's Camp Programs about "Community, Character and Caring at Camp: Respecting & Embracing Differences" are designed to engage people of all ages by actively thinking about and understanding what it means and feels like to be different. When a camp staff and administration thinks about diversity, character and caring in this way, the whole camp benefits, including the youngest campers.

The program is a terrific addition to pre-camp orientation programs and to continuing staff education as the summer progresses. The program is very powerful for those working with campers and their parents, as there is a real need to help foster and facilitate a positive sense of self and a greater ability to empathize with others.

Tami's unique program is interactive. It can be done in a variety of ways including one large presentation followed by in-depth sessions. The series may also include a specific talk with administrators and counselors to address issues that may arise as a result of the program, as well as new areas to explore in groups regarding the subject matter. The program can then be further tailored to suit a specific camp's needs.

Topics range from physical disabilities to learning disabilities, from ethnicities to cultures, from family make-up to economics, from race to religion, from name calling to bullying, from sexual preference to severe allergies and illnesses. The program challenges people of all ages to embrace the fact that each and every person has something of value to add to the camp community.

Tami Luchow is a graduate of Yale University and Columbia University where she received a Bachelors and a Masters degree, respectively. Tami's course of study for her Masters Degree was done at Teacher's College in the area of Guidance and Rehabilitation which dovetails nicely with the programs that she does for camps nationwide. Tami is married with two young boys. She is constantly sharing her life lessons, step by step, with people in all walks of life. Tami likes to think of herself as someone who was "born to be different!"

When it comes to camp Tami has some extra experience —she is a former camper and a former camp counselor and she is now the mom of two young campers! Tami is speaking at this year's American Camping Association's Tri-State Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
